Things to do in the Sun Route. Part I

November 27, 2006 · Leave a Comment

If you decide to travel through the Sun Route in Ecuador or if you are near Montañita, here are some towns that you might want to visit.

Manglaralto: Try the “Calderada” soup at the Calderada restaurant, it is an expensive (up to US $ 12.00) seafood soup. Two persons can eat from one dish and it is really worth the money. The restaurant is located in front of Manglaralto’s church, a small town just 5 minutes before Montañita.

La Entrada: La Entrada is a small town that has not been developed and so far the only good reason to stop there is small place that sells desserts. Desserts so delicious that even governmental authorities stop there to try them, the best of all: prices, for only US $ 8.00 you can have a complete Passion fruit cheesecake. By the way La Entrada is the last town in Guayas Province, 15 minutes away from Montañita.

Things to do on your way to Otavalo

November 24, 2006 · Leave a Comment

These are the places that you should visit and the things to do if you go to Otavalo, many of them are on the way there o near the town.

The first stop is in Cayambe, you have to try “Queso de Hoja”. If you can stay a day and are in good shape, you should try to climb the volcano (has the same name). To be on the top of it gives you and amazing feeling, but be careful, it is very dangerous, really cold, the weather changes completely in 2 minutes and is really hard to get up there (even going in a 4wd)

Jumping in Las Grietas (The Cracks)

November 23, 2006 · Leave a Comment

To arrive here it is necessary to cross in a water taxi from the wharf of Puerto Ayora to the Playas de los Alemanes (Beach of the Germans), then you have to walk for 15 minutes through a very rocky zone until you arrive at the cracks, is recommendable to go with snicker shoes because there are many formed stones of lava and cactus in the floor with which you can be hurt.
